I’ve always been a self-starter with a strong appetite for commerce. Following five years working as an auctioneer, I founded MyMortgages.ie in 2005, which has gone from strength to strength ever since – navigating some tricky economic waters and thankfully emerging as one of Ireland’s most respected and renowned brokerages with a national presence. With over twenty years’ experience in the property and financial services industry in Ireland, I have at this stage provided thousands of people with mortgage, property, life insurance and pension advice and services. This means I’ve been involved in deals totalling half a billion euro over the past two decades.
I guess it wasn’t a surprise that my career path led me to the mortgage and financial services sector. My father, Frank, an auctioneer and property developer, introduced all of us as children to the world of property from an early age and I spent my summer holidays working on building sites from the age of twelve. It is to my dad that I give credit for instilling in me a hardworking and honest approach to business.
I am an active advocate for charities and community initiatives, and a willing participant in fundraisers that range in scale from 5k runs to marathon, triathlon and in recent years - open-water swimming events. Having spent some considerable time as both a passionate rugby supporter and player, I still keep a firm footing in the sport. A few of my highlights include captaining the Presentation Brothers College Cork team to victory in the Munster Schools Junior Cup, winning a Senior Cup medal, followed by winning the 1998 U–19 Rugby World Cup with Ireland and the Students European Cup with UCC in 1999. I also represented Ireland at U–19, student and university levels and these sporting successes made me believe that I could achieve anything from a young age. I may have since hung up my boots as a player to settle for the comfort of the stands, but my experiences from that time have had a formative and lasting impact on my attitude to teamwork and leadership.
I graduated from University College Cork with an Honours degree in Economics and further qualified with a Diploma in Mortgage Practice, a Professional Diploma in Financial Advice (Qualified Financial Adviser); Personal Insolvency Practitioner from the Life Insurance Association of Ireland (LIA) and a Property Services License holder with the Property Service Regulatory Authority.
The Mortgage Coach is my first book - a culmination of years of hard work, dedication and enjoyment, so I hope all readers benefit from it and that it makes a difference in their mortgage journey.
