Alexander Demircan

Alexander Demircan is a graduate of Tufts University who has been involved with a number of political campaigns in his home state of Connecticut. While originally most interested in presidential politics, he has become increasingly involved with following and participating in local politics.

Alexander is a self-diagnosed political addict. Since middle school, he has watched presidential debates, started arguments on the school bus, and fantasized about making a run, himself. When he was old enough, he began taking political action through campaign work. Rather than hopping onto a presidential campaign, he joined a state senate campaign in his Connecticut hometown.

Although he often finds himself characterized by his outspoken nature, once humorously referred to by a classmate as “the guy who always sounds like he’s giving a Ted Talk,” his ability to speak in public forums has given him a unique opportunity to be heard. One that he has not wasted. He draws on the two things that the United States of America has a great abundance of: curiosity and determination. “If people could just understand politics, perhaps they too would see how important it is to be engaged,” states Demircan.

That urge to share his love of politics led him to write to illustrate that politics need not be some purely divisive thing to be avoided at all costs. Understanding elections and candidates on an intimate level are, in essence, necessary to ensure that our communities and our country as a whole function properly, providing for all of its citizens.
