Writing Loving the Enemy revealed more to me than I was able to understand through years of living and journaling. Words on paper always enhanced the depth of my insights of life as I lived it. When I turned 8, my aunt called me to write. Now 80, I am deeply grateful for much deeper discernment.

We don’t choose our families. We create a life—or wrest it out of their hands. I struggled to escape family rubrics by seeking deeper meanings in literature, music and faith, but not without a number of the follies most of us yield to.

My misunderstandings and my mistakes led me to study literature, psychology, and theology (not to overlook therapy), thus deepening my comprehension and leading me to gratifying professions in both education and ministry. I am grateful for it all.

One must never give up the search.
