Ian Matthews

Ian came to the theatre late in life, although strictly speaking, he started to act in the melodramas which were part of the Old Time Music Hall run by the Chantry Road and Park Hill Residents Association in Birmingham. Moving to near Bath after retirement, plays and pantomimes put on by Bathford Amateur Dramatics and, more recently the Argyle Players in Bath, offered acting parts.

Attendance at a Playwriting course run by the Rondo Theatre started him on a new path and as well as continuing to take small parts on stage, Ian started writing short plays. Some of these were performed at private dinner parties with a group of friends and these have been published in a series of books (two in 2019, one in 2020 and more in 2021).

Membership of the Bathford Twinning Association allowed the writing of pantomimes and dramas suitable for performance in France in conjunction with our French friends. It is possible that these will be published in the future.
