Randy Nikkel Schroeder (1964- ) was born in Minnesota, to a Russian Mennonite family who fled the Bolshevik Revolution and the Ukrainian Anarchy. A Canadian for over fifty years, Schroeder has travelled the High Arctic and other enchanted places, collecting strange stories and uncanny experiences for his fiction. His first novel, ARCTIC SMOKE, has been described as a cross between Mark Helprin’s Winter’s Tale and Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting, or as “cyberpunk with frost demons.” Schroeder is Professor of English, Languages, and Cultures at Mount Royal University. He is also guitarist, mandolinist and vocalist for the prog-folk band Uncle Zugg.
