Mr Donald James Davison

I have a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University, a Master of Business Administration from Western University and a Queen’s Commission in the Canadian Army. I worked in the financial sector for over 25 years with the Royal Bank of Canada and Central Guaranty Trust. My hobbies have always been in singing and photography while raising a family. In my retirement I turned to the genealogy of my family, lecturing on history, and writing historical fiction and non-fiction. I live in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

The story is of two young people who try to save their horses, Sadie the Lady and Sal’s your Pal from being killed in the Civil War and to racing for money to repair their war-torn homes in Virginia. Part One: Their home, Half Sink and the Civil War — Out of the Ashes and Part Two: Racing, The Dixie Mad Dash — On to the Track.

I’ve tried to bring in war, horses and racing into the introduction and appendices so that the reader may more fully understand what the life of a horse was like in the 19th century.
