George Florian Walter

George Walter was born into a Roman Catholic family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1941. After 12 years of Seminary studies, he put aside the clerical state and became a "Pilgrim of the Absolute." Known as "Pilgrim George," from 1970 to 2013 he walked in a jean patched robe, over 40,000 thousand miles, through 41 countries, alone and without money, carrying a staff with a crucifix mounted on the top in one hand and a Bible in the other hand. In 2019 he published his autogbiography, "The 40 Thousand Mile Man: Odyssey of a Pilgrim" (available at Word Association Publishers, Tarentum PA). In 1988 he published his notes and reflections from his 4,000 mile walk from Barcelona to Jerusalem in 1970-1971, in a 190 page paperback book entitled "A Pilgrim Finds the Way."
