John P. Dentico, Ed.D., AIMP, is a leadership practitioner who gets called when the usual solutions stop working. For more than thirty years, organizations have brought him in when a deep dive into strategy was required, when the situation demanded a fundamental shift in the underlying assumptions, and when leaders needed a different way to find and implement solutions. The pattern he keeps finding underneath is the same: the problem is structural, and everyone is treating the symptoms.

His work is grounded in the field, not the lecture hall. He has designed and delivered more than one hundred leadership simulations, building decision environments where leaders confront the gap between what their organizations claim and what they actually do. That practitioner lens runs through everything he writes: a conviction that leadership is action, that meaning is the new money, and that you cannot tool your way out of a structural failure.

Dentico is host of the internationally recognized Throttle Up Leadership Podcast, where more than 160 conversations with leaders, scholars, and practitioners across the globe have become both a distribution channel and a living research base for his thinking on the modern workforce. It is the kind of vantage point few writers on leadership actually have: hundreds of hours spent listening to how the work really happens, across industries and continents.

His background spans the FBI Academy, the Defense Intelligence Agency, IBM, the Brookings Institution, Johns Hopkins University, the City of San Jose, and the San Antonio Airport Authority, along with service as a retired commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Different organizations, different industries, different problems on the surface, and the same structural pattern underneath every time.

He is the author of Throttle Up: How to Accelerate the Impact of 21st Century Leadership, the creator of the LeadSimm Leadership Impact Simulation Methodology and the TSWG Strategic Thinking Method.

Dentico writes for the people doing the actual work of leadership, the ones who would rather read the air than blame the canary. He lives and works in Virginia.
