I was born in New York in the early 1960's and now reside in San Diego California. Growing up in the 60's and 70's in New York my mother always encouraged me to read but I hated it and was later diagnosed with dyslexia which was not typically diagnosed back in the 60's. I thank my mom for realizing that reading and comprehension was difficult for me and she got me the help I needed. I never really enjoyed reading what teachers assigned back then (imagine a dyslexic person with comprehension issues trying to understand or enjoy Shakespeare, Yuk, I hated that growing up). If my mom was still alive today, she'd be so proud.
How did I get here? My middle school had a mainframe computer (probably less power than today's smartphone, which is mind boggling) and reading about how those worked and figuring out how to write simple programs taught me how to read technical manuals. That turned me on to reading things that I enjoyed and could comprehend easier.
After graduating from a State University of NY (SUNY) I moved to San Diego, California where I currently reside with my wife and two sons. Today, I enjoy reading entrepreneurial books as well as online stories, trade publications, and almost anything that I actually find interesting (which seems to increase as I get older). I'm not really a big fan of reading fiction, I prefer to get my fantasy escape watching Science Fiction movies and shows when there is time for that.
After moving to San Diego with no job, and no prospects, I tried selling door to door as my first gig and after 3 months of successfully doing that, I decided I could sell cars. Yep, I was a car salesman for Toyota from 1984 - 1985 and I learned a lot.
After that I put my computer and finance degree to work and started working for The Price Company (aka Price Club now Costco). I left Price Company in 1989 to pursue my first entrepreneurial venture. I was the first distributor of Snapple Beverages outside NY from 1989 - 1990 (long story, maybe a book in the future). Not long after that, I ventured into the ATM business in 1993 and haven't looked back since. Now I enjoy teaching others about the ATM business which lead to my book.
