There aren't many positive ways to spin having an incurable illness. Especially not when it just leaps out of the shadows and yells "Boo!" at you when you least expect. However, the silver lining in my being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease first thing out of high school is that it's given me ample cause to carefully examine my life and choices. As well it's given me plenty of time to sit and think, albeit from the sterile "comfort" of a hospital bed. Also, being brought near to death's door on several occasions tends to grant one clearer perspective, and I am no exception.

My work as an author technically began when I was 16. My favorite pastimes back then being reading, daydreaming on the porch swing and drawing, I was convinced by my family and teachers to attempt to commit my first fledgling tale to paper. It ... didn't quite turn out as I'd hoped. But I kept at it. And as I grew in both body and mind, so too did my artistic style and abilities graduate from the fantasies of a lovestruck boy to the tall tales of a questing man.
