Jules Heartly

Meet Jules Heartly.

Author Jules Heartly is a blogger and author of the novel based on true

events, Save Your Prayers, and the Children's book series, Mornin The Super

Bird. For many years now, she has lived in New York, working as a

technology project manager during the day and a creative writer on nights

and weekends.

Jules writes books for young children to put the future of our planet at

their heart. She believes children are our best chance to improve our

ecosystems, find solutions to major climate problems, and save the planet.

As a Novelist, she is a historical fiction writer. Profoundly influenced

by the traumatic experience of the wife of a long-term hostage of guerilla

warfare, Jules felt compelled to tell her story. She took a leave from her

full-time job to travel to Colombia to interview the families of the other

hostages and experience the environment where the kidnapping occurred.

Jules then compiled this wealth of information to create a retelling of

these survivors’ stories, Save Your Prayers/In the Shadows of Gunshots.

Jules is connected to the emotional, economic, and environmental

struggles that others face daily, and she believes in raising awareness

about the importance of preserving nature and returning to the basics. To

that end, one of her current projects is promoting environmental

conservation among younger generations via children’s books.

Jules enjoys long walks on the beach, tree-hugging, cycling and hiking.

During her walks by the beach, you can find her picking up the trash left

by careless beachgoers and, hopefully, encouraging others to do the same.

Jules debut novel, Save Your Prayers/In the Shadows of Gunshots (In

Spanish as Rehenes en Misa) was recently featured as part of the twentieth

anniversary of the novel’s focal event: the La Maria Church Kidnapping, the

largest mass kidnapping in Colombian history. Jules Heartly was interviewed

by the Colombian newspapers El Tiempo and El Pais. Readers of the novel

have described it as a “a great story about the forgotten victims of

violence—their hope, courage, and strength to continue living in the face

of adversity.” Her novel is always relevant given the rising violence in

the world and the forgotten focus on the ones' left behind it.
