Lavelle Porter is the author of THE BLACKADEMIC LIFE: ACADEMIC FICTION, HIGHER EDUCATION, AND THE BLACK INTELLECTUAL (Northwestern University Press, 2019), and the co-author of SAMUEL R. DELANY: A REFERENCE GUIDE TO HIS LIFE AND WORKS (Rowman & Littlefield, 2025). He is originally from Meridian, Mississippi, and is an alumnus of Morehouse College and The Graduate Center, CUNY. His writing has appeared in various publications including The New Inquiry, Poetry Foundation, JSTOR Daily, and Black Perspectives. He is currently a Distinguished Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY.
