Dennis Torres

Author Dennis Torres is the grandson of a famous writer who mentored and encouraged him as a young boy to write. His curiosity about all things led him to having more than sixty-four different jobs and careers (so far) including running the merry-go-round at the Santa Monica Pier near Los Angeles, carrying mail for the Post Office, working as a dairy farmer, bartender, soldier in Vietnam, big-rig truck driver, industrial engineer, commercial pilot, mediator and arbitrator of litigated cases and a graduate school professor at a top-tier west coast university teaching multiple courses to MBA candidates including critical thinking and ethics.

Following high school, he lived in New York City's fabled Hotel Chelsea (where he met fellow resident, playwright Arthur Miller) until graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology then went on to study philosophy, law and dispute resolution at several colleges and universities, while always writing in the process.

In 1969 he met his wife, Averi, a renowned psychic, at Barney's Beanery in Hollywood, Ca, then a popular hangout for creative types. That night they went home together, never parted, and married six weeks later. For a honeymoon, they bought a tent trailer and traveled around the United States and Canada for a year while Dennis wrote. They have continued to travel by motor home much of their lives together.

In 1976 he discovered meditation and yoga, became a vegetarian and has not missed a single day since without an hour of yoga and half hour meditation.

Since 1980, he and Averi have enjoyed their home overlooking the beach in Malibu, CA.
