Allison Whittaker is the former publisher of Boston Review. She was born in Long Island, New York, and competed as an international equestrian. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College with a major in English Literature and a minor in Religion, focusing on 17th- and 18th-century poets, as well as Taoist and Buddhist literature. Mary Oliver is one of her favorite modern poets. Like Oliver, she finds great inspiration walking through the woods or along the river in Potomac, MD where she lives.
