Mark Clegg

Mark Clegg's first book, "Mountain Miles - A Memoir of Section Hiking the Southern Appalachian Trail" was published by Toplight (an imprint of McFarland and Company) in 2019.

His second book, titled "The View From Hadrian's Wall - Two Friends Hike Along the Ancient Roman Frontier," was released by Toplight in 2021. The book is co-authored by David Wilmot, a longtime friend.

Mark moved in a new direction with his third book, "The Crimson and Gold - Football and Integration in Athens, Georgia," which was published by UGA Press in September 2024. This book has won two awards to date — the 2025 Best Local History Book Award bestowed by The Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC), and Historic Athens 2026 Annual Preservation Award — Publications and Programs.

His fourth book, "The People's Lake — The Tumultuous History of Lake Lanier," will be published by NewSouth Books (an imprint of UGA Press) in 2027.

In addition to writing, Mark works on his antiques business, Raison de Rétro, selling vintage books and memorabilia. Mark resides in Athens, Georgia and has also lived and worked in Atlanta, Houston, and London.
