Why I wrote "Grace Maps".
Researchers say that negative emotions seem to be easier to remember than positive ones. Emotions such as fear and sadness trigger increased activity in the area of our brain that is linked to memories. Emotionally charged memories are preserved in more detail.
I have found this to be true in my life. I distinctly remember painful bits and pieces of certain times much easier than happy day-to-day activities.
Our brain's ability to better remember something that has hurt us can be very helpful unless this ability hinders us when searching our memories for instances of God's faithfulness in our more difficult times.
This natural ability to remember painful times over good times will rob us of our joy. This is one of the main reasons I wrote "Grace Maps". Using me as your guide and "Grace Maps" as your guidebook, you will begin to see God's faithfulness even when you have become disillusioned and discouraged over the times you felt God was silent.
God is faithful when our hearts might bust with happiness, and He's faithful when our heart feels shattered with hurt. He is Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11)
Why I wrote "Out of Words":
My heart has been shattered like a dropped water glass. A host of big and not-so-big hurts have pierced my heart. As I minister to women, I hear and see their brokenness spill across their cheeks.
The difficulties we face finding words to express our pain, even in prayer, or perhaps especially in prayer, can overwhelm most of us. I get that. My pain has rendered me speechless, too. I know what it feels like to be out of words.
Although all of us have a uniquely painful story, we share membership in the Heartbreak Club.
My father was an alcoholic, and I was molested by a friend’s dad when I was a child. Healing my own damaged heart taught me the hope I now want to offer to the brokenhearted. Plowing through unhealthy thinking in my own life, shaped my understanding of the power of perspective.
Our hearts can heal. I'm living proof that God is still in the healing business.
