My name is Daniel D. McNamara but better known simply as Dan. My background some say is diverse while others prefer to call it diffuse. I've been a YMCA professional, a computer programmer and a teacher of same, a corporate security supervisor and trainer and even the head of cultural exchange delegations to and from the old Soviet Union. Given all of this and more, describing myself does not come easily but if I had to choose a single term, I would most prize the label of Christian.
It is a matter of faith that motivates me to write as I do, allowing me to witness to people, the wonders of God's free offer of salvation through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
There are so very many great works available that so elegantly convey this message and the many corollary truths of the faith that I would never attempt to add to their number. Instead, I seek to write interesting and hopefully entertaining stories that convey the essential fact that people must come humbly to the Lord and then grace abounds. My characters act out on paper how some find Jesus while others resist or outright reject Him, all in the context of trials and adventures. My hope is that the truths of the salvation message will be seen in real world, human terms, leading the not yet believing to become intrigued enough to seek to learn more.
My offbeat plot lines may sometimes strain credulity for some more literally minded readers but that's okay. After all, the good news of the Gospels appears to be foolishness for those who have yet to come to faith. In any case, the characters, stories and the scenarios that make them up are not the real purposes of these books, they are only vehicles, yet I try to make them intriguing enough to hold one's interest.
I have a secondary audience as well, namely fellow believers who seek to interest friends and relatives in the Word. Just shoving a Bible in someone's face is commonly done but I believe it is rarely effective at communicating the essential message. It is my hope that an enjoyable story that acts out real human responses to the Christian message is a more helpful first step. I will not know if my approach is worthwhile until I stand before the Bema seat of Christ, but I feel I must try, as all believers need to, each in their own way.
