David was born in Pennsylvania, but at the age of 5 he moved to the region of Detroit Mi. There, he lived as traditional middle-class youth with good educational opportunities when compared to those generally found in Brazil. His undergraduate work at Michigan Technological University for 4 years (MTU) and Michigan State University (MSU) for 1 year, was strict.
One of the aspects of his education in the USA and that he brought to Brazil was that his formal education could end, but that he should never stop studying and reading. And he soon learned to communicate in Portuguese. Also, his ease of reading, speaking, understanding, and thinking in English became valuable in Brazil.
The specific and technical facts that he learned in college ended up being important over time. His willingness and professional need to continue learning led his obtaining a Master's in chemistry. And only while studying at ITA (Institute de Tecnologia Aeroespacial) did he come to learn HOW to study and write.
