Denise Simons-Morton was born in Washington DC in 1951. She grew up in Wheaton Maryland, a suburb of DC. She always liked science and wanted to learn how the world works. But she wasn't sure what kind of science she should study. Interested in both psychology and zoology, she decided to check out medical school where both those interests can be combined in the study of medicine. As her career progressed, she focused on studies with direct implications for practice. In "Public Health/Personal Disease: A Memoir" she tells her story about how she searched for the perfect career and how, when at her career's peak, she developed Parkinson's disease and had to figure out how to cope.
