Audrey Phillips Cox

Since she was old enough to read, AUDREY has always loved books. When she was in the seventh grade, she got excellent grades and displayed a lot of ambition for her thirteen years of age. The administration took note of this and decided that she should skip the eighth grade. However, since Audrey was so young, they finally decided that if she skipped to the ninth grade, she would be too young to start college after high school graduation. Instead, although she attended the school for her entire eighth-grade year, she did not attend any classes. During that year, she was assigned one job that she considers to be a MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT in her life.

The school did not have a library at that time. While school was closed for the summer, the principal took an empty classroom, had carpenters come in and line all the walls with bookshelves, had a ton of books delivered to the school, and solicited the services of a public librarian to come to the school for three days to show Audrey how to establish a library. Audrey learned how to categorize a book, to label the spine of the books with numbers that corresponded with index cards so that a student could locate a book when they entered the library. She took many of the books home to read. This solidified her love of books.

Audrey single-handedly accomplished establishing a complete library before school was closed for summer vacation that year. The library served the school well until many years later, when it was demolished and a new school was built in its place.

She went on the next year to the ninth grade in high school. After graduation from high school, she went to work for a large company as a payroll clerk, married a man with Phillips as his last name, had four children and made the decision to attend college late in life. She acquired an Associates Degree (ADN) in Nursing from the University of Mobile in 1979, then she went on to acquire a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from the University of South Alabama in 1991. Her husband with the Phillips last name died in 2003.

After graduating in 1979 with an ADN, she worked as a registered nurse in hospital settings primarily in intensive care units. While working with an ADN degree, she attended USA part-time to earn a BSN. After thirty years, she retired early to take care of a debilitated mother. Having read hundreds of books in her life, she had subconsciously incorporated the craft of writing. However, she only had time to write part-time until her mother passed away.

In August of 2015, she married Bill Cox. They were happily married for seven years. He died in December of 2022. When he died, she had time to write full-time. She already had several fiction and nonfiction books published on the major online bookstores and some paperback books that can also be ordered through local bookstores.

Having been married to a PHILLIPS and a COX; therefore, the name AUDREY PHILLIPS COX originated which is on most of my books, blogs, and articles that can be found on my website: apc-writer.com.
