R. H. van de Weert

R.H. van de Weert is the author of the NZ Post 2002 short-listed children's books, The Last Whale/Te Tohara Whakamutunga.

She worked as a lab technician, kitchen hand, sheep and beef farmer, veterinary assistant, budget advisor, adult literacy tutor, creative writing tutor, agricultural journalist and columnist and, latterly, a Parliamentary electorate agent. She was always willing to have a go at any life/work experience as long as it was legal, helped pay the bills and she could use it to feed her writerly fires.

Wife of one, mother of two, grandmother of three, Renee is now writing full time.

Concerned by, and for the world we are creating today she wonders what it might look like tomorrow. Her Reveille series; Book 1 Resistance, Book 2 Revenge and the latest, Book 3 Redemption explores one possibility.

Her latest work is a rewrite of 24 of her monthly newspaper columns from June 1994 to December 1996.

She says, ‘…Dreamers and Escapers is a memoir, yes, but I realise now, reading, rewriting, remembering, it is also a love story.’

Renee is now deep into the first draft of Reveille Book 4 - working title Resolutions - aiming to publish 2026.
