Andre Harris

Andre Harris is a native of Newport News, VA. His musical gifts began to manifest at a very early age, and he would often be found playing the drums, singing, and dancing with his cousins. At the age of five, he began singing with his church choir and sang with the Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) Community Choir at age seven. As a member of the SCA Community Choir, he was exposed to many National Recording Artists and had the opportunity to open for many nationally-acclaimed musical giants in the Gospel industry such as James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, The Hawkins Family, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Slim & the Supreme Angeles; just to name a few. The choir also had the opportunity to sing along with many of Gospel Greats known to the Hampton Roads area as well, such as the Sunset Travelers and the Gospel Impressions. In his youth and while singing with his local choir, Andre’s high tenor voice was often heard as lead vocalist on some of the Hawkins' Family’s hit songs "Going up Yonder", "Bye & Bye", "Jesus is Knocking" and “God Is”

In 1991, Andre and a few of his close friends saw an opportunity to enhance their musical career by moving to Los Angeles, California where they, as the group EMMAGE (Ebony Men Musically Able to Give Entertainment), eventually signed with Death Row Records. The group was featured on the musical soundtrack of the box office hit, "Deep Cover" starring Laurence Fishburne. Andre’s vocals can also be heard on Ice Cube’s track and Emmage’s “Dreamin” on the soundtrack of the motion picture “The Players’ Club”. For his vocal contributions on that project, Andre received a platinum album.

After several years as an R&B Artist, Andre acknowledged God's voice and made the major decision to return home to Virginia. He rededicated his life to Christ and his voice to ministry. Since that time, Andre he has had the opportunity to grace the stage with or open for many nationally acclaimed Gospel Recording Artists such as J. Moss, Andre Cross, and Bobby Jones. He has also released three Gospel projects; the single, "It Was Jesus", the album, “It Was Jesus” and most recently, the single, “Marvelous”. In July of 2019, Andre, along with his former group members “Jonah’s Run”, won the ENCORE Awards “Gospel Group of the Year”.

In 2019, Andre decided to tell the story of his musical journey, the ups and the downs, and his many disappointments. Today, Andre is currently awaiting the release of his new book titled, “Life After Death Row: From EMmage to His Image.” He also actively participates in the music ministry at his church and is in the studio preparing for his next album, “From Death To Life”.
