I coach Founders, Owners, CEOs, and others who hold general management responsibilities.

I was a Division President, Group Vice President, COO, CEO, blah, blah, blah for over 25 years. When I started in my first general management role, I was not fully prepared. I needed mentors and coaches. I had skills in engineering and a bit in operations but little in marketing, sales, accounting, finance, and human resources, for example.

What I now realize as a coach is that I am not the only one with this issue. Almost no one is fully prepared for their responsibilities as a general manager.

It is interesting to me that some in leadership roles eschew coaching and mentoring while others actively seek advice. Coachability seems to be a personality trait that makes a difference.
