Tom Shanahan

Tom Shanahan is an award-winning sportswriter whose books focus on college football integration. Michigan State coach Duffy Daugherty fielded the sport's first fully integrated rosters, which led other schools, including USC, abandoning the long-standing unwritten quota that limited Black athletes to a half dozen or so. His books also highlight the true pioneers desegregating southern programs in the 1960s. The stories of true pioneers debunk the myths of Alabama coach Bear Bryant and the 1970 USC-Alabama game.
