Author’s Biography

Michael Fuchs is a life- long reader and writer, enjoying many genres of literature, fiction, and non- fiction; as well as movies and television. A child of amazing artists, he was raised in an artistic environment which encouraged his creativity from birth. He has had editorials and articles published in magazines, such as: Massage Magazine, Tai Chi, Qi: The Journal of Eastern Health and Fitness, and The Empty Vessel. Mike is a Sifu (Master Teacher) and Instructor in the arts of Shaolin Five Form Fist Kung Fu, Taiji, Kali, Reiki, Qigong, Min Zin and Meditation. Sifu Mike is the Connecticut State Director for the International Chinese Boxing Association. He is the former owner and Chief Instructor of the White Lotus Martial Arts Center (est. 1977) and currently leads Butterfly Martial and Healing Arts. He has been elected by his peers in the arts into elite Halls of Fame, including the Action Martial Arts Hall of Honors, The Master’s Hall of Fame, and the World Karate Union ‘Lifetime Achievement Award,” amongst others.

Sifu Mike has been blessed to learn Reiki Healing Arts and related methods of Min Zin, QiGong, and Meditation from some of the most elite and renowned teachers of these arts. He has also received shaktipata, darshan, satsang, inititian and meditation instruction from famous world level spiritual leaders, such as: Sant Rajinder Singh ji Maharaj, Shri Anandi Ma, Mirabai Devi, Gen Sherab Kelsang, Namadeva Thomas Ashley- Farrand, and Self Realization Fellowship.

Reiki, Taiji, and Martial Arts teachers include: famous living legend, Dr. Maung Gyi; Susane Grasso and Pat Warren (2 of the pioneering reiki teachers in the Northeast, USA); Living Treasure Fu Shu Yun; 5 Form Fist Shaolin Headmaster Tao Chi LI; Tuhon Leo T. Gaje; Daoist Lineage Holder Prof. Chung Jie; Sifu Manfred Steiner; Master Wang Hai Jun; Sifu H.K. Chan; Tuhon Bill McGrath; and various others.

Sifu Mike has led Reiki Healing Art programs in the CT State Prison System and taught Reiki Certification Classes in the CT State Community College System for about 10 years. He was also part of the first class of professionally credentialed Integrative Medicine Consultants in the state of CT, via St. Francis Hospital and Medical System (late 90’s), and has led and taught numerous taiji, martial arts, and reiki healing arts multi- day retreats, workshops, seminars and other special events. Sifu Mike has had success integrating his arts of Reiki, Taiji, QiGong, Meditation and Min Zin with traditional medical/ healthcare for many special needs groups for close to 30 years now. This includes the Arthritis Foundation, MS Society, Seniors, Prison Populations, Acute Care Rehabilitation and Psych. Settings, inner city youth, Spiritual and Religious Retreat settings, in the hospital and medical system/ setting, and others. Recently he has led programs on Reiki and Taiji for the CT Brain Injury Alliance and Project Genesis, and is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.

Sifu Mike has had success in the martial arts tourney scene as well, both as a trainer and competitor. He trained an extreme full contact weapons fighter who competed in The Gathering of the Pack (Dog Brothers), this young man went undefeated and credited Sifu Mike’s training for his success. Later in life Sifu Mike also attended multiple national and world martial art tourneys and had excellent success, such as receiving scores of 10, 10, and 9.9 for his performance of Butterfly/ Yang style taiji at the well known Ocean State Grand Nationals in 2013 (he was penalized for going over the time limit and finished 3rd), amongst other similar results at national and world tourneys.
