Erik Lande

I’m Erik Lande, PhD, and I am one of the authors of “Does My Mom Have Dementia?”

Jargon, rushed appointments, and just general lack of communication with doctors frustrates us all when we are concerned about our health, or that of our loved ones. One of the most important goals I have as a neuropsychologist is to listen, understand my patient’s concerns, and provide realistic recommendations to help them. I think it is important to put things in terms that we can all understand. I try to keep this in mind with all of my work, both clinical work and teaching.

I have tried to continue this goal in my writing. I like to provide information that makes sense and reflects what we all experience in our daily lives. Through the use of examples and translation of jargon I try to make medicine understandable.

I am always happy to hear from people, so feel free to reach out to me or my co-author at RecognizingDementia.com. If you’d like to learn a little more about me or neuropsychological assessment you can also check out Neuropsyched.com, where I offer talks and professional training, as well as a link to my practice, InsightNeuropsychology.com.

Currently, I work as a neuropsychologist at Insight Neuropsychology in Camarillo, California. I also lecture in the Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology graduate program at University of California, Santa Barbara and provide consultation and training to local groups, including Adult Protective Services, Crisis Intervention Training for law enforcement, and the Ombudsman's program. Besides my clinical work, I am kept busy running to karate and swim lessons for my three boys. I reside with my wonderful wife and my boys in Ventura County, California.
