Phyllis Barone Ameduri is a natural story teller who has always loved writing. Never Ruled by Man was her first book. It was written after hearing an obscure (and actually untrue) family rumor which led to a four year long research journey. The book is a story of old Stapleton, Staten Island before it became part of the City of New York and an amazing woman, Mary Ann Bascombe, who lived during that time. Her second book, Nursing: What the Heck Was I Thinking? was written during the peak of the COVID-19 crisis. It has nothing to do with the pandemic but instead is a reflection and sharing of what she has learned from the patients and people she has encountered in her decades long career in nursing. In May's Hotel, her third book, she has returned to telling a story of old Staten Island, this time featuring the seaside community of South Beach during its heyday as resort town in the last century.
