Helen writes authentic novels set in the transgender community.

Having belonged to and led several trans/ LGBT groups, campaigned for trans rights, provided workshops on trans issues, and been a counsellor specialising in gender variant clients, she has a wealth of personal and other experiences to draw on – and can ensure that the settings are historically accurate.

The tales demonstrate that each trans person’s experiences are unique – and that being trans is just a part of their lives.

She has now published four novels and one novella:

SUMMER DREAMS was inspired by a true incident when the author was 19 and sunbathed on the beach at Studland near Bournemouth. She saw a man watching her and packed up and left. But what if she hadn’t notice him? What if he hadn’t minded that she was trans?

CHANGES is a tale of corruption, blackmail, revenge, drug smuggling, murder, and self-discovery.

IMPACT is Chris’s story. His family don't know he cross-dresses. If his wife ever found out, it could be the end of his marriage — and cost him his daughter. Then a project in Manchester provides the opportunity to rent a flat where he can be Christine outside work and even those weekends when he doesn't return home.

IMPOSTER Jeff is transgender. He’s been looking for a way of transitioning without causing financial problems for his family. Then a train crash gives him the opportunity to leave his male identity on one of the victims and adopt the identity of a female who has also been killed. (coming soon).

OPERATION BUSTED FLUSH A group of ex-special forces transgender veterans decide to take action to defend their community against the White House’s attack on transgender people in this novella.

Helen has also written:

A TALE OF TWO LIVES the story of her childhood in the UK, Iraq and France — joining the scout movement; joining the RAF as an Officer Cadet — but being told ‘you’re not ready for a commission yet, come back in a year’; moving to London and living alone in a bedsit; getting into trouble and purging all her female items. Getting married and eventually having a family before eventually starting to seriously question what she needed to do and coming out to family and friends and her life post transition.

TRANSGENDER TALES an anthology, ‘based around a diary she’d kept when she first moved to Manchester and was considering whether she needed to transition permanently.

Helen is involved in Manchester Women’s Writers’ Group, whose critiques of her work has been very valuable and Out on The Page – an LGBT writing group.
