Some years ago I discovered that (three generations back) a branch of my family were involved in two bigamous marriages. The ancestors managed it quite simply by going overseas and announcing themselves as single or widowed and this gave me an insight into how genealogy can reveal little known truths of social history. I was hooked. In my series of five Anna Ames mystery-thriller novels I enjoyed exploring the connections between and within families both past and present, especially the past secrets that can explode into the present. I have had a varied life working and living in the UK, the USA and the Caribbean teaching at school, college and university levels and in between working at a refuge for abused women in Cincinnati but before going to university as a mature student I worked nightshifts at factories and day shifts in offices - anything to increase the family income. In June 2021 I published a collection of short stories about the experiences of older women (quirky, tragic, poignant, funny) during the pandemic, titled Behind the Rainbows. I have two sons and two grand-daughters who, I am grateful to say, are also beloved friends. I currently live in Birmingham, UK .
