Stephen Gillett is a technologist, entrepreneur, and executive leader currently serving as Chairman and CEO of Verily, the precision health company originally born out of Google X (the moonshot factory) at Alphabet. Over his career, he’s focused on building and scaling emerging technologies to tackle complex, real-world problems.
His path spans both startup ventures and massive enterprise transformations—from guiding Verily through its transition into an independent company to co-founding Alphabet’s cybersecurity moonshot, Chronicle, and leading it to its acquisition by Google Cloud. He’s also held C-suite and board roles across major global brands, including Chief Operating Officer at Symantec, President of Digital Operations at Best Buy, and Chief Information Officer at Starbucks during its digital turnaround. His work has been recognized by Fortune (“40 Under 40”), Modern Healthcare (“100 Most Influential”), and the Aspen Institute (Henry Crown Fellow).
Stephen serves as Chairman of the Board of Discord and as an independent board member for Dutch Bros. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon—where he played Division I football for the Ducks—and holds an MBA from San Francisco State University.
At his core, Stephen’s perspective on leadership is grounded in his faith, family, and a lifelong passion for gaming—a domain where WIRED once highlighted his innovative approach as a World of Warcraft Guild Master as a blueprint for real-world leadership. He lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with his high school sweetheart and their eight children.
