Debbie Keegan has been a leading breeder of Bearded Collies and the owner of Bantry Bay Beardies since 1986. Her 1992 publication, “Tara’s Story,” narrates the inspiring tale of a sweet puppy whose breeder considered euthanizing her due to hip dysplasia. Refusing to accept this, Debbie had Tara's hips surgically repaired, and together they went on to win the “National Westinghouse Community Service Award” for Tara’s work as a therapy dog. This story has helped countless dogs with dysplasia.
After her dog Chloe passed away from cancer, Debbie honored Chloe’s memory by pursuing her dream of supporting owners through their loss. She created an innovative blend of traditional coloring book lessons and online activities to help parents discuss topics like the Rainbow Bridge, getting a new puppy, and adopting a rescue dog with their children. All her books emphasize child and dog safety, with the aim of ensuring every dog finds a forever home.
Together with her friend Cathy Peters, a professional dog trainer and behaviorist, Debbie co-founded "Paws I Love You". This company is dedicated to helping people, especially children, care for and train their dogs. Debbie’s books advocate for the importance of supporting dog owners from the moment they bring home their puppy until the dog crosses the Rainbow Bridge.
Debbie has also illustrated Cathy Peters' book and assisted in developing the online course, “Sheriff Sheldon’s Deputies of Safety.” She plans to continue expanding and publishing works in her Chloe Talks to Kids series.
