Micky Gooch Dave Major

From potential soccer hooligan to world champion. Micky’s inspirational story of how he turned his life around to become the inventor of, and World Champion at, one-finger press-ups. His single-minded dedication to achieve his goal pushed him through the pain barrier time after time. His punishing fitness regime saw him training in all conditions, sun, rain or snow as his indomitable willpower drove him in search of perfection.

Micky used his unique talent to raise thousands of £s for various charities, aided by his appearances on prime time television shows like Blue Peter, Just Amazing, Britain’s Got Talent etc.

He overcame several career-threatening illness’s, including a debilitating allergy that effectively robbed him of 8 years at his prime, to become a World Record Holder again in his 40s & 50s.

It took a massive stroke, at 58, to stop him from demonstrating his unique talent, but Micky, a 2nd dan black belt Kyokushin, has fought back to resume karate training.

How I look forward to seeing the completed manuscript of someone that inspired me by long distance – here in, at that time, faraway South Africa (no internet), I was amazed when I read of the exploits that this legendary karateka was doing and I was motivated to train even harder.

So, if I was inspired then imagine how many others will be when they actually read the whole story and not just the snippets.

Sincerely Hoosain Narker

Chief Instructor – Ashihara Karate International Federation

I first met this extremely charismatic, polite and humble gentleman at the turn of this century at a fitness event where I was making a personal appearance.

I was instantly drawn to his amazing talent having been such a fan of Bruce Lee and his physical abilities. Mick’s work ethic is on the verge of obsessive, but this is what it takes to really be the best at something. Although I’m so inspired by Mick’s Spartan routine of accomplishment, it is his kind heart and warm personality that really impresses me.

Well done Mick

He is living proof of what the human body is capable of and that goals can be reached. And that it’s proven we only use ten percent of our brains. He sits alongside mind power legends such as Uri Geller and Tony Robbins on teaching how to access inner powers of accessing the human brains full potential”

I was pleased to ask Michael Gooch to set a world record at Crystal Palace May 1984. This was with all our dojo’s backing him, as it was for charity.

This was in true Kyokushinkai spirit which we try to instil in both him and into all our students. He did achieve this world record, Osu.
