Helen Coleman

Helen Coleman gained her first degree at Durham University in 1999, in Research and Language, Postgraduate Certificate in Social Research Methods at Teesside University in 2005, Master of Science in Social Research Methods, at Teesside University in 2006, her PGCE at Glyndŵr University in 2011 and is currently studying a PhD at the University of York.

Helen is an award winning Senior Lecturer and Education Consultant with a portfolio including many roles at several prestigious organisations UK and worldwide. Among these roles are: Author with SAGE Publishing Ltd., Editor-in-Chief, Editor and Author with SAGE Publications, Inc., Reviewer for the Journal of Experiential Education, External Examiner and Academic Advisor to Cornwall College, Assessment Specialist with Cambridge University Press & Assessment, Visiting Lecturer with The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Study Skills Advisor with the University of Law, External Marker with The Awareness Centre, Head of Education with Teachers Train Teachers and Subject Matter Expert in Research Methods, Data Collection and Experiments with SAGE Publishing Ltd.

Helen is a keen researcher with varied research interests directed by her academic profile. Two primary focus subjects are innovative ways of teaching research methods, and 'Changing policies and procedures in HE and the impact on student retention and engagement'.

Helen strongly believes being part of a university, whether staff, student or stakeholder, is knowing you are in an inclusive community where you should be free to learn and progress while being challenged and empowered, in a physically and mentally safe and healthy environment. As such, Helen is a strong advocate for Time to Change and mental health Champion.

Helen was presented with the first Glyndŵr University Vice-Chancellor's Award. This award was created and presented to Helen for 'Showing such deep commitment to staff and student welfare, health and safety, contributing to improvements to policies and procedures and courageous and pioneering work in Education'.

Helen is a STEM Ambassador, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, Fellow of the HEA, Member of the International Statistical Institute, and Member of the International Association for Statistical Education, Member of the British Psychological Society and Associate Member of the Association for Learning Technology among many other professional organisations.
