From James -

Like everyone else, I grew up and looked to the community around me, the shows and movies, and the stories I read and loved. I immersed myself in fictional and fantastical worlds and characters, but I found something lacking in all of them. Even in my favorite books, I could not find a person like myself. Even when there were gay characters in the stories I loved, they were never more than side stories to provide coloring to the main characters’ souls.

Where were the gay main characters who were more than a punch line and a stereotype? I wanted to see all the worlds I loved and be able to relate to them and find myself within them. In the end, I realized that I could contribute and fill this literary gap. I write myself into every story I create and in each piece I share, I hope that others can find a bit of themselves.

When I set out and decided to write to publish, I wanted to not only give a real representation of LGBT people, but give a voice and address the misconceptions surrounding us. When I put pen to paper I seek to create the worlds I have always wanted to read and see for myself.

Written stories have a magic that is unique and cannot be found in any other media. No other story form allows you to lose everything you are. The reading experience is more than just of observation. In reading, the author’s world is unimportant. The true power of the written word is the world created in the reader’s mind. It is in how the reader hears the characters, how the reader sees the emotion, and how they connect to the story that the literary gem can shine.

As such, when you read my stories, I want them to become your stories. I will never tell you what I meant, nor read these stories in my voice. My intent in writing each line pales when compared to what you find and believe when you read these words.
