Angela Murphy

Angela Murphy is an author, educator, school psychologist and complex trauma coach who lives in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada with her family. She is also a dog, chocolate and nature lover!

It seems that more and more children are coming to school with increased anxiety, childhood depression, and exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Teachers appear to be overworked and without enough resources to support these children with complex needs. Angela found a way to support these children, teachers and families by writing a Wonder Pup Series that increases self-regulation for children, which in turn increases mental health.

For 15 years Angela has been teaching self-regulation skills in the classroom (i.e. "I Message", self-talk, mindful breathing, visualization, etc.) and has struggled to find a series to go with her lessons, so she decided to write her own! She has taken her experiences with children in the classroom and with caregivers of children who have been through complex trauma to create what she calls the Wonder Pup Series!

Speak Up, Wonder Pup is the first in the series and it teaches children to stand up for themselves in a calm and caring way. In her experience, she has seen that giving language to children and allowing a safe place to practice these skills decreases anxiety and depression in children and builds confidence. She believes that ALL children can learn and that it's our job as "big people" to directly teach and model these skills. The Wonder Pup stories are relatable, educational and fun!
