Hello, my name is J. Gregory Henderson.
I've always liked stories. Faerie stories, ghost stories...harrowing tales of mythic heroes against insurmountable odds...that sort of thing. My Mother, I believe, was who sparked such fires in my heart. I would overhear her ebbs and flows, joys and lamentations, whilst reading Lackey, Martin, Jordan and of course, Tolkien. (Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name...)
Anywhoo...so, while I was taken by these stories, these...epic songs of majesty and myth, I also found myself searching. Wanting more. It started with maps; daydreams of far off ranges of snow capped peaks and hidden vales, full of life, wonder and magic. It wasn't long before I found myself scribbling down bits of and pieces of legend, lore and logic for these strange places in my mind. Names; for both people and places. Dates. Dynasties. Destinies.
While these were all secreted playthings of my youth, as I grew older, the events of my life began to shape the conversations that I played out whenever I had a dull moment. Faceless, sword-wielding brutes gained the perspective of age...and the far fields I dreamt of developed a flavor and a purpose.
Writing was always an escape. Whether it was a poem, a research paper or something more sordid. Writing was a chance to make something out of nothing. To spin real a thing. To express emotion and to relay understanding. I hope that it always will be; for me, as well as all that toil, tirelessly, with ink and pen.
