Pamela Bradley

Pamela Bradley is a bestselling author of fifteen non-fiction books to date, historian, freelance writer and a passionate traveller. She lives in Sydney, Australia, is married and has three adult sons.

Pamela was educated – graduate and post graduate studies – at Sydney University where she majored in History, Geography and Anthropology. Her main interest is in the history and cultures of ancient civilizations, particularly those around the Mediterranean basin, North Africa and the Near East with a particular passion for ancient Egypt. However, she has also written on other ancient cultures in Central and South America and China, as well as a hard-backed book called Cultural Treasures of the Ancient World and several memoirs in which she has been able to incorporate her interest in history.

Pamela’s passion for ancient cultures and mysteries developed at the age of nine when she was given a book on lost civilizations. This led her to take History at University and motivated her to travel extensively. She taught the Higher School Certificate Ancient History for thirty years in NSW, her aim being to make it accessible to all students and to demonstrate how important it is to learn the lessons of the past. Also, she has been on Syllabus committees and for fifteen years was a marker and leader of examiners for the HSC.

When she left full-time class room teaching, she bought and ran a café, but in keeping with her interests, it became a focus for writers, artists and actors. She also had a brief stint at teaching English to Asian students in an exclusive boy’s school and in between travelled overseas to many writing workshops. During all her travels – which continue to this day – she wrote and kept journals that she later used as sources for literary travel articles and blogs.

As well as communicating via the written and spoken word, Pamela loves making solitary journeys and ‘going off the beaten track’, reading about discoveries on the frontiers of science, meeting people who in the words of Robert Frost ‘have taken the road less travelled’, and delving into what makes each of us unique.
