Martin Sambrook

I have worked for many years as a consultant in international media and advertising for numerous global companies. Despite this professional career that pays the mortgage I've long had a deep interest in both history and military history. Prior to the professional life I studied History and Politics at the London School of Economics, where I was lucky enough to count the young David Starkey amongst my teachers, and his later media fame is no surprise, he was a fantastic history evangelist.

While continuing in full time employment I found time to fit in an MBA at Warwick Business School and raise a young family. The interest in military history continued and was then given some structure when I commenced an MA by Research with Buckingham University. The chosen research project was centred on General Orde Wingate and the Chindits, a topic that has its inception for me after a chance meeting with two veterans of the Burma campaign.

This research project, completed in late 2018 was to become my first book, 'Lions in the Jungle', which challenges the 'Official History' account of the Chindits' contribution to the Burma victory.

Hopefully it won't be my last book, and initial planning on a follow- up is underway, which will take a closer look at one of the regiments deployed as Chindits in 1943-44.
