Jerald Payne is a psychotherapist and specialist clinical social worker in private practice in both Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Jerald graduated from Kansas State University in 1992 ( BS in Pre-Law/Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a Psychology emphasis) and from the University of Kansas in 1998 (MSW in Clinical Social Work). Jerald began his therapy practice upon his completion of graduate school in 1998 and has provided outpatient treatment services to adults and children, individuals, couples and families in multiple settings (offices, schools, foster homes, group homes, detention centers, etc). Jerald's initial plan was to attend law school, but after graduating from Kansas State University, his first job was working in a children's inpatient treatment center. He spent four years working with adolescent youth at the center and realized that working with children was his true life's purpose. He credits his success with children to his mother, who was a foster parent: "My mother was absolutely amazing in her work with children, despite her lack of a college education. She was a beautician by trade who owned her own beauty shop, but somehow interacted with children with the knowledge of a trained therapist. I should only hope to do as well as she did! So much of my work with children stems from lessons that she taught. She was a widow and single parent with as many as 15 foster children in our home at a time. She was an incredible mother to so many children" Jerald and his wife are also foster parents as it was always his dream to follow in his mother's footsteps and provide a loving home to children in need. He has written about both his therapy and foster parenting experiences in 4 books that will be published in 2019-2020. "I have always said that my therapy is the Lord's work! And everyday I pray, Lord please guide me throughout my day so that I might touch the lives of others as my own life is touched in return. And believe me, it works! So often in therapy I have found myself sharing wisdom that is far above and beyond my own knowledge base. And when this happens, I'm still shocked! I can only give credit to God as I thank Him for allowing me to carry his lessons of guidance and messages of hope".
