John Horak

I have been writing since high school. My professional work career spanned nearly 38 years and much of it was devoted to technical writing. It was only after I semi-retired that I had ample time to devote to the writing I really enjoy. My first novel is based upon the Edward Hopper masterpiece entitled "Nighthawks". I saw that painting in the Chicago Art Institute years ago and I was mesmerized, wondering what brought those four individuals into that diner on such a dark night. After carrying around this thought for years, in the aftermath of my wife's death, I decided to write a book about the diner, grief and try to weave the story into the music we each carry embedded within the fabric of our lives. Each of us has special songs, certain lyrics of which have meaning only to us. These songs transport us back to those memories.

I like to write whenever the urge hits me and if you monitor my Facebook Author website, https://www.facebook.com/MidnightConcessions you will see musings, some of which are intended to be funny, some serious, all entertaining (I hope).

I have been a lifelong Wisconsin resident which means I eat a lot of cheese, drink moderate amounts of beer and cheer heartily for the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, the Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks. We Sconnies still drink water from a bubbler and enjoy a soda pop every once in a while. Life is quiet and peaceful in our beautiful state.

I am widowed and have 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren.

I generally lead a quiet life but when the urge to write does hit, I may bay at the moon through my magical keyboard.
