About Jeanette McClellan

Jeanette is originally from York, a city whose vibrant past and present has certainly influenced her writing. Although she left Yorkshire at 18 to pursue a career in nursing, mostly in Scotland, she has not lost touch with her Yorkshire roots. Certainly Smackhead Sad, a gritty novella about life in Leeds as a 20-something drug user, depicts some of the darker (and lighter) moments of city life in the North.

Jeanette's creative writing career is fairly recent, made easier by her early retirement from the NHS which has given her plenty of time to devote to exploring ideas and places. In the past she has published nursing text books and several journal articles related to her career under her former name Jeanette Laird-Measures. More recently, she has published a collection of poems with other writers in a group, a short story in Northwords Now, a theatre review from the Edinburgh Fringe, a collection of poems and prose ("Musings on Life n' Stuff, Innit?" available here as a Kindle read), and she is currently working on other projects related to travel.

Jeanette is married to Tommy, and they enjoy semi-retirement in West Lothian with all things Hibs, their kids and a very new addition in Flora, their granddaughter.
