I was born in a small hamlet in South Georgia and have lived there most of my life. I graduated from Brenau College, a girl’s school, with a B.S. degree in Social Studies. Later in life, I obtained several Masters and a doctorate degree. I had never been interested in writing a memoir until I had grandchildren and realized how different their lives were from the lives of their parents and grandparents. This epiphany led to the emergence of this book, Growing Up Southern.
