Simon J. Woolf

Simon J Woolf is an English wine and drinks writer currently based in Amsterdam.

A well-known commentator on natural, organic, biodynamic and orange wines, he contributes regularly to Decanter magazine, World of Fine Wine, Meininger’s Wine Business International and many other publications on and offline.

His first book “Amber Revolution”, covering the fall and rise of orange wine, was published in 2018. The New York Times hailed it as one of the year’s top five wine books, and it won the 2019 Roederer Best Wine Book of the Year award. The book has received widespread critical acclaim and was also shortlisted for the André Simon Food and Drink books award 2018.

His writing career began in 2011 with the founding of The Morning Claret – an online wine magazine which has become one of the world’s most respected sources for natural and artisanal wine. Simon was the Louis Roederer International Wine Writing Awards “International Feature Writer of the year” in 2018. His career has previously included working as a musician, sound engineer, IT consultant and alternative currency designer.

Simon is a fan of difficult music that others might consider unlistenable. He is also on a mission to make wine content on YouTube less serious, via his channel SimonOfOrange.
