Lainey Cullen-McConkey

After a somewhat late start into the equine world - not starting riding lessons until the age of 13 - I have spent the past 30 or so years learning about horses and their care. My formal training began only a few months after I started riding, when my trainer at the time told me that I was to begin “Stages” training. I wasn’t even sure what that meant (but she was not a trainer whose instructions you questioned!) so I turned up at the time commanded and then began my learning journey. The Stages were, at the time, the British Horse Society’s riding instructor and stable manager qualifications, covering all aspects of horses and their care.

In addition to continuing with my equine education over the years, I have made it a point to read as much as possible on the subjects of horse health and care, trying to keep abreast of current research and thinking. I have worked at a number of boarding and training facilities, and managed one large facility before opening a small private boarding barn.

I currently have three personal horses: a Quarter Horse mare, a Thoroughbred mare and a 3 year old Paint colt (the Thoroughbred’s son).
