John Lacey

John R. Lacey is an author of dramatic plays for the theatrical stage. A protege of legendary teacher Lee Strasberg, he studied screenwriting at UCLA and L.A. City College, receiving a Masters degree from Pepperdine University in California. He has directed Actors Equity productions of his plays "Gardel's Tango" at the Zephyr Theatre and "The Tango Singer" at Theatre West in Hollywood. He is a graduate alumni of Directors Lab West at the Pasadena Playhouse and a long-time Playwright/Director's Unit member of The Actors Studio. Mr. Lacey has written television comedies for Univision/ Televisa in Mexico City, including the hit primetime show "The Extraterrestrial" and has worked in the film industry for United Artists in Hollywood. He was also Entertainment and Managing Editor of Grafica Magazine at Orbe Publications on the Paramount Studios lot for many years.

Other produced plays of his include “Executive Encounter", “The Debt”, “Magical Transformation” and "Fun in the Snow". As yet unproduced plays include “Helicopter Mom”, “Infernal Limbo”, “A Place for Silence”and "The Surrealists".

John has been a member of the Dramatists Guild of America (DG), Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC) and Vice-Chairman of the Theatrical Producers League- Los Angeles (TPL-LA). “GARDEL'S TANGO: The Day You Love Me” was developed at The Actors Studio Playwrights/Directors Unit, Greenway Court Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre/ L.A., Atwater Village Theatre, InterACT Theatre Company, The Pico Playhouse and Samuel French Hollywood Bookshop through a series of writers workshops and public staged readings.
