Lou Cook

Lou is the author of "Murkey's, A Rabbit Noir," a San Francisco waterfront mystery, featuring ex-cop Bunz the rabbit and his intellectual spider pal, Webbs.

Before she could even read, Lou discovered "Cinderella" at The Hickory Stick Bookshop. It was love at first sight—she had to bring "Cinderella" home. She followed her mother around the bookstore and promised, promised! to learn how to read, if only Mom would please, please let her take "Cinderella" home. Her plan worked...and Lou still has that first book!

The Hickory Stick Bookshop is still located in Washington Depot, CT. Stop in! It has expanded, but is still in the same building.

Lou grew up on a small farm in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in western Connecticut, and has lived on both coasts. Her father was a piano tuner and her mother was a member of the local School Board and the Town Zoning Board. The kids helped care for the cows, horses, ducks, chickens, pigs, cats and dogs, and worked in the large vegetable garden. Lou has lived in San Francisco for the past 25 years. For the past 15 years, she has worked as a deckhand on the ferries of the beautiful San Francisco Bay.

Lou is now writing Bunzini and Webster’s next caper, a prequel to "Murkey's." And she always carves out time for a good read. Favorite authors include Justina Ireland, Damon Runyon, P.G. Wodehouse, Joan Didion, Nick Petrie, Andrea Camilleri and many others. She particularly enjoys mysteries, history and biographies.
