Becky A. Wright

I am Becky A. Wright, an avid quilter and history lover, especially the Civil War era. I'm a recently retired librarian for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. I learned to sew on my Grandmother's Singer treadle sewing machine when I was only 4 years old. Grandma Lillard loved to sew and had a wonderful scrap collection she let me use and play with. She told me stories of raising a family of nine children during the Depression and how terrible it was to not be able to buy fabric when she needed it. I developed a love for fabric right then and knew I never wanted to be without. I am convinced this is to blame for my huge stash that is still growing! Grandma had an old camel back trunk full of quilts, mostly scrappy. When I spent the night at Grandpa and Grandma Lillard's farm, I was allowed to rummage through the trunk to choose the quilt I would sleep under. I give Grandma the credit for any quilting ability I have, though she never knew I started quilting because she had Altzeimers at the time. I am a member of the James Harlan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I can proudly claim that on my paternal side, I found 92 ancestors who fought for the Confederacy and 47 who fought for the Union during the Civil War. No wonder I find that time period so fascinating. All my patterns I develop are of this era and always have a story to go with them.
