Mike Heath is from Sittingbourne in Kent, but has lived in Manchester for the past 27 years. He became involved in Studio Salford in 2003, where he has had most of his work performed and developed. He completed his MA in Playwriting in 2016.
Mike’s work has been performed extensively around the North West of England, Wales, Western Australia, Devon and now London.
Mike runs Studio Salford WriteForTheStage (WFTS) courses. WFTS has been running since 2013 and has helped develop over 18 full length stage-plays and well over 30 short pieces.
Writers who have been participated in the courses have had work performed at Royal Exchange, Contact Theatre, Oldham Coliseum, Kings Arms Theatre, Hope Mill, The Swan in Dobcross, Bread and Roses Theatre (London), 53Two, and two writers are being supported and their work developed by Graeae Theatre (London). They’ve had month-long runs at Edinburgh Fringe, many shows at Greater Manchester Fringe, at least four ACE-supported productions of work developed during the course, become full-time producers, readers for National Theatre, and writing tutors.
Their work has been included at countless festivals including 24:7 Theatre Festival, Page2Stage (Liverpool), and BAME festivals in London; and published independently of WFTS.
WFTS supports and encourages work from writers of a diverse background, especially supporting the development of writers who are excluded from Young Writers Schemes.
