Ambar K. Mitra earned his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He has five years of industrial experience in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Carnegie Mellon University.
He has thirty-three years of graduate and undergraduate teaching experience at Iowa State University. During this period, he taught undergraduate courses on Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Aircraft Performance, Gas Dynamics, Numerical Methods, and Capstone Design. He taught graduate courses on Aerodynamics and Advanced Engineering Mathematics.
During his tenure in Iowa State University, the Engineering Student Council recognized him four times as an Outstanding Engineering Professor.
His research interest is in Computational Mechanics and he has published thirty-six technical papers and he has advised and graduated sixteen MS and PhD students.
His current interest is in active learning in classroom and has founded a company, Actus Potentia, Inc. The company develops software for interactive learning in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. He owns copyrights of eight software packages and six patents.
