Joseph R. Paglino

JOSEPH PAGLINO is the published author of Modus Operandi: a writer's guide to how criminals work, and Murder One: a writer's guide to homicide.

He has been a Confidential Investigator for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City, a Detective for the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, and a Detective with the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office in Freehold, New Jersey.

Joseph has personally investigated thousands of homicide, suicide and suspicious death scenes, as well as kidnappings, robberies, burglaries and participated in undercover “sting” operations involving stolen property and Internet crimes against children, which earned him the President’s Award for outstanding police service in 1992 and 2001. He has worked on the high profile cases of serial killer Richard Biegenwald, and the "Prom Mom" murderer Melissa Drexler.

Joseph is a court certified expert in fingerprints, crime scene investigation and Spanish, as he is bilingual. He has received extensive training from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York and New Jersey State Police, as well as other county, state and federal law-enforcement agencies.

Joseph is the recipient of a B.S. in Criminal Justice, St. John's University and a M.A. in Forensic Psychology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Joseph has appeared in numerous media such as television (CNN SHOWBIZ TODAY, FOX NEWS, GOOD DAY NEW YORK), radio (BBC, NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO-ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, WWDB PHILADELPHIA) as well as in the printed media (THE WASHINGTON POST, THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, THE ORLANDO SUN-SENTINEL, THE FORT WORTH STAR TELEGRAM, AMERICAN WRITER and the ASBURY PARK PRESS). In keeping up with technology, he has also hosted the AMERICA ON LINE MONDAY MYSTERY FORUM and KISS OF DEATH mystery on-line workshops sponsored by the Mystery Writers of America.

He has also lectured at numerous conferences throughout the country, such as the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference, Bouchercon, Sisters in Crime, Dallas Area Romance Writers, California Writer’s Club, Romance Writers of America, Asilomar, Book Passage Mystery Conference, Novelist’s Inc., and many more. Additionally, he has worked as an advisor to THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL in the production of a mystery CD-ROM. He currently has his own website and blog www.killerendings.com to assist both aspiring and established writers in accurately depicting forensics, crime scene investigation, criminal profiling, and is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
